Functioning within the Health System’s mission, values, objectives, procedures and policies the Sterilization Technician processes instruments and equipment through cleaning, decontamination, reassembly, packaging, sterilizing, storing and distribution for surgery. Another focus of this position is to assist with daily operations in collaboration with the OR team members. The Sterilization Technician performs all duties in a manner that is cost effective without compromising quality of care, contributes to organizational effectiveness, and works with vendors for proper loaner instrumentation. Key responsibilities include inspecting instruments for pitting, defect, loose items, bioburden and instruments in need of repair; testing the accuracy of instruments; and removing defective instruments from the system to the repair program . The Sterilization Tech also reassembles and replaces instruments, lubricates instruments and replaces defective products, and performs immediate use stylization based on AORN standards of practice .
Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Training in medical terminology preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Must obtain certification with 18 months of hire date to advance to Tech II level.
Experience: Previous 1-3 years of experience in Central Sterile Processing is preferred.
Skills: Must be skilled in surgical instrumentation and have a willingness to train in all facets of Surgical Instrumentation including but not limited to CVOR, Ortho, General, OB/GYN, Urology, ENT, Neuro, Vascular, and Plastics. Must be highly motivated, dependable and willing to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment. Excellent interpersonal skills and professional attitude and demeanor required at all times.
