Job Description

Functioning within the Health System’s mission, vision, values, policies and procedures, the PCT/Unit Secretary functions as a partner to the Registered Nurse with the goal of providing quality patient care.  In addition to patient care, the PCT/Unit Secretary transcribes physician orders and performs a variety of clerical tasks as needed. On call response time within one hour required.  Education: High School diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED) is required. Additional education in medical terminology and/or clerical skills is preferred.  Must successfully complete LMHS Sec/PCT orientation program and demonstrate competency on all skills.     Licensure/Certification: Current BLS required. Must be actively registered as an STNA in the State of Ohio; OR As an RN student, have completed 2ndquarter or 1stsemester clinicals in a Nursing Associate’s Degree or diploma program or be a 2ndyear student in a B.S.N program; OR As an LPN student, have completed2ndquarter or 1stsemester clinicals in a Licensed Practical Nurse Training Program.   Experience:  Previous experience as a Patient Care Tech or Unit Secretary is preferred.   Skills:  Must have excellent “customer service” skills, including the ability to exhibit patience and tact with all constituents including physicians, patients and associates.  Must demonstrate flexibility with work schedule changes, be cooperative and collaborative, and have the documented ability to work with speed and proficiency while under stress.Must have basic computer skills and EMR (electronic medical records) experience. Must be able to print and write legibly and accurately.  Possess the ability to calculate simple mathematics and follow instructions.    Must demonstrate ability to review patient charts; treatments, record and report symptoms, reactions, and changes in patient’s conditions monitoring verbal and non-verbal responses of seizures. Must demonstrate lifting ability including but not limited to assisting and maneuvering patients when required.   Adequate physical ability including sufficient manual dexterity, frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, regularly throughout a regular work shift assisting in patients ADLS.  Must have knowledge of isolation techniques to communicable diseases and/or bodily fluids.  Must have knowledge in the different materials and equipment involved in applying and removing seizure pads and braces.


12 hour shifts
