Job Description
Under the general direction of the Supervisor of Laboratory Service, the Medical Lab Technician is responsible for planning and providing high quality patient diagnostic information in a manner consistent with the mission, values, and operating principles of the hospital. Accountable for ensuring that appropriate diagnostic information is provided in accordance with the highest professional standards in accuracy, speed and consistent quality. Performs phlebotomy as central part of the role.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities

1.Perform analytical tests and POC and moderate complexity instrumentation.
2.Performs phlebotomy on hospitalized and ambulatory patients
3.Responsible for performing analytical tests
4.Monitors and ensures specimen integrity
5.Evaluates test results to ensure that accurate levels of analytical performance are maintained
6.Responsible for the evaluation and review of internal quality control in accordance with regulatory requirements and takes corrective action as necessary
7.Reviews all laboratory slips and reports for accuracy, takes necessary corrective action in consultation with the Laboratory Supervisor
8.Responsible for performance of required routine maintenance, review and documentation for all instruments
9.Performs electrocardiograms
10.Assists the Supervisor in maintenance of lab supplies
11.Assists the Supervisor in ensuring competence of other staff for point-of-care testing and in maintaining supplies for such testing
12.Assists the Supervisor as appropriate in all lab-related quality assurance activities
Participates in other hospital activities and committees as appropriate
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology from an accredited College or University
At least one (1) year working experience preferred
Experience in pediatric phlebotomy helpful but not required
MLT (ASCP) certification eligible or preferred
