With 175 years of service, VCUHS helps define Richmond. We are visible in the city skyline and in the grateful eyes of our patients. With each passing day, we touch thousands of new families' lives ... and they touch ours. And the impressions that are left on us and on our city endure time, change, and the passing of generations.

Our staff of more than 9,400+ (and growing!) represents the most talented and dedicated of healthcare workers. In fact, for two years in a row (2012-2013 and 2013-2014), VCUHS was ranked a "Top Hospital in Virginia" by US News & World Report. To earn these and many additional accolades (see "Awards" section below), we rely on the professionalism, dedication, and compassion of each and every valued member of our team. We appreciate their innumerable contributions to VCUHS and to the community of patients and families whose lives they touch each day.

Our team members are our greatest assets. As with any valuable investment, our team members require nurturing and care to help them remain strong. That's why we do everything we can to help them create the balance they need, from encouraging them to take time off to be with their families, to helping them purchase homes, to providing a bit of extra help if it's needed. We are there for our team members, every step of the way.

Richmond, the capital of Virginia, is a city textured with history. It's where Patrick Henry threw down the revolutionary gauntlet with the words "Give me liberty, or give me death.". It's home to the oldest, continuously meeting legislative body in the U.S. It's where Edgar Allen Poe worked at his first literary job, and where Arthur Ashe learned to play tennis. Anchored by the past, Richmond also is marked by continuing tradition of growth, innovation, and commitment to community.

The MCV campus of the VCU Health System is an urban teaching hospital with a 52-acre footpring one block from Capitol Square, and over 2.5 million square feet of facilities2 in satellite locations surrounding the city including research space at the Virginia Biotechnology Research Park. Though sought by patients from surrounding suburban and rural areas of greater Richmond and from around the world, our location places us at the very center of what makes Richmond tick. The city's size, scale, and location, combined with our flexible scheduling and emphasis on maintaining a healthy work-life balance, means you can mesh opportunities for rest and relaxation with the demands of professional life. Richmond is a cityscape of culture: a blend of historic residential neighborhoods, museums, and businesses. It is home to the Governor of Virginia, the Richmond Symphony, the Richmond Ballet, the theatre, the Library of Virginia, AA baseball, championship basketball and tennis, and a host of other cultural attractions. Opportunities for outdoor recreation include rock climbing and whitewater rafting, fishing and bicycle riding, golf and horseback riding. And there are dozens of restaurants from well-seasoned lunch counters and one-of-a-kind pushcart vendors to critically acclaimed restaurants. Plus, we're at the crossroads of Interstates 64 and 95, an hour from the mountains and two hours from the beach and Washington, DC.
