Pearl River County Hospital is a county-owned facility that was established in 1957 to provide critical care to rural residents. The hospital was funded through the Hill-Burton Act, which has strict guidelines prohibiting discrimination and a provision for a certain amount of free care to be administered each year.
A member of the Critical Access Hospital system since 2010, the hospital offers a 22-bed critical access and swing bed facility, a 24-hour emergency department which is staffed entirely with TNCC and ENPC certified nurses, diagnostic and lab services as well as physical therapy and behavioral health intensive outpatient programs.
The hospital remains committed to providing excellent care to residents of Poplarville and surrounding communities. In doing so, it has expanded services to include a 126 bed nursing home which offers many amenities to residents. It also has an off-site Prime Care Clinic that provides general, pediatric and behavioral health care by highly qualified providers.
Pearl River County provides over 400 jobs to local residents and has a gross payroll of over $15,000,000 including taxes and benefits. The hospital has an affiliation LPN/RN nursing and occupational therapy assistant program with Pearl River Community College. Pearl River County Hospital also participates in the Allied Health program with Poplarville High School, with UMC’s Physical Therapist program and provides occupational therapy treatment for the Poplarville School System.
Pearl River County Hospital is operated under the guidance of a five-member Board of Trustees and Administrator Steve Vaughan.
