Serves as a patient safety specialist to establish, monitor, and coordinate risk control, reduction, and prevention programs to minimize the risk of injuries and adverse incidents to patients and staff.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in coordination and maintenance of the incident reporting system and programs including systematic review of all incident reports filed for the purpose of identifying trends or patterns and develop recommendations for appropriate corrective action, prevention, training/education, and compliance monitoring.
Develops statistical and qualitative reports on patient safety issues, tracking and trending patterns, communicating this information effectively to administration, leadership and other appropriate audiences.
Gathers, monitors, and maintains awareness of current clinical outcomes data; timely informs and presents data to leaders of trends. Recognizes events that may have claim potential and reports such events to the carrier.
Facilitates RCA and Pro-Active Risk Assessment completion, analysis and monitoring of action plans.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor Degree in healthcare related field, preferably a BSN, with five or more years of progressive experience in healthcare risk management, regulatory affairs, quality management and/or patient safety, or equivalent amount of education and experience.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficient in planning, coordinating and implementing patient and staff safety procedures
Good judgment and decision-making abilities
Strong interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Interest in continuous learning and a commitment to staying informed on regulatory changes
Obtains (CPHRM), or Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) within 1 year of hire
