Nursing professional, APRN, Bachelors or Masters preferred. Hospice or home health experience required. Management experience required.
Must possess a valid KY drivers' license, current auto insurance and reliable transportation, and valid nursing license.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Ability to communicate, concentrate and document effectively and accurately.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Possesses and maintains good physical stamina and mental health. Has presented a pre-employment physicians health clearance including a negative TB skin test and/or CXR and other tests as required by organization policy.
Satisfactory references from current employers and/or professional peers.
Must be amenable to working as needed to support and manage staff on all shifts in inpatient hospice setting. Some nights and weekends may be required depending on needs of unit.
SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Hospice Inpatient Unit Nurse Manager is responsible for all aspects of the 24 hour, 7 days per week care centers operations, from supervising staff to monitoring patient care. The manager uses their extensive clinical experience, prior administrative experience and training in both nursing and management to ensure exceptional care for patients and leadership to the team. The manager uses strong communication skills, diplomacy and has the ability to take leadership of any situation. The manager handles all supervisory duties for the unit, overseeing registered and licensed practical nurses, nurse aides, medical clerks and support staff. The manager sets work schedules, delegates assignments, assigns tasks and evaluates employee job performance, as well as building teamwork, coaching, developing and inspiring high performance and disciplining employees who do not fulfill their job requirements or provide inadequate patient care. The manager assists with the implementation and adherence to policies, procedures and standards as well as identification of new policy and procedure needs. The manager often mentors less experienced nurses, offering clinical and career advice. The manager, in concert with Bluegrass Care Navigators strategic plan and the Executive Director, also sets goals and standards for the unit and holds regular staff meetings in which direction is given or areas for improvement are discussed.
