REPORTS TO: Director, Strategic Initiatives
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Associate Vice President, Strategic Planning and Business Development
PURPOSE: To provide support in the implementation of initiatives across Duke Health to ensure the fulfillment of strategic objectives. Primary duties will include project management activities, the creation and management of volume modeling tools, the drafting of business plans, and the structured analysis of information (internal and external) to help inform business decisions.
This position carries significant responsibilities for the support functions needed to ensure that Duke Health successfully informs and appropriately operationalizes strategic plans and initiatives.
Project Management / Project Planning
In collaboration with manager, develop project plans identifying decision points, deliverables, timelines, and stakeholders for the implementation of strategic initiatives
Coordinate and participate in meetings with stakeholders to move projects/initiatives forward
Maintain updated project plans
Update and communicate reports evaluating project progress/performance
Strategy and Business Plan Development
Receive and track strategy and business plan requests
Participate in planning meetings to assist in the development of Duke Health strategic plans and business cases.
Act as primary support to Duke Health entities in accessing relevant data sources necessary to develop strategic plans and business cases.
Identify necessary data to be collected. Effectively analyze the information to garner key insights and develop recommendations.
Appropriately integrate internal data generated by finance, facility planning, and other relevant departments, as appropriate.
Develop polished, written business plans to support the Duke Health strategic goals, critically assessing the needs of each individual plan and providing content that is uniquely positioned to address the specific question and/or topic.
Keep manager apprised of progress and status of all projects. Consistently meet deliverable deadlines.
Appropriately manage repository of historical plans, data pulls, and deliverables.
Data Analysis and Presentation
Collect, analyze, and interpret data from disparate sources (internal and external) to support the planning and implementation of strategic initiatives
Visually represent data analysis and interpretation through the use of Excel graphics, PowerPoint presentations, and maps (e.g. MapInfo, MapPoint, ArcGIS)
Develop documentation (e.g. presentations, memos, business plans, etc.) to clearly and concisely communicate data analysis to parties internal and external to Duke
Effectively use software programs (Access, Microsoft SQL) designed to extract, manipulate, compile, and organize internal and external information.
Develop and apply knowledge of other databases, both internal and external to Duke (e.g. Sg2)
Build and update forecasting and modeling tools to predict future volume trends to inform business development, facility, and technology planning
Keep manager apprised of progress and status of all projects
Receive and track project requests; review and clarify with clients, as needed.
Identify necessary data to be collected and run database reports for specific requests about the market and service area
Assist Duke Health entities and staff in developing ad-hoc reports aimed at extracting the relevant data needed by the end user
Effectively analyze and interpret the data/information to garner key insights and present the information in a clear, concise, and polished manner

Appropriately manage repository of historical requests, data pulls, and deliverables
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
Monitor local, regional, and national trends. Support market research functions in support of planning initiatives
Collaborate and communicate with other members of the department to ensure effective and efficient completion of projects and for purposes of problem solving and on-the-job training
Support the Certificate of Need process, as appropriate
Licensure, Training, and Policies
Must maintain compliance with all mandatory DUHS policies, training, and health/safety requirements

Education:Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelors degree. Masters degree is preferred.
Experience:Working knowledge of Microsoft business package to include PowerPoint, Access, Word, and Excel. Tableau and SQL preferred, but not required. Working knowledge of PC and/or web-based software programs for database support and management. Experience drafting written materials for executive leadership and/or regulatory stakeholders. At least three years of relevant work experience OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.
Work requires the ability to plan and administer programs and direct program activities within a specific functional area, generally acquired through four years of related experience. OR ANY OTHER EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
