WORK PERFORMED:

Provides direct clinical services for critically ill adult patients with multi-organ trauma or multi-system failure according to established protocols under the supervision of the ICU supervising physician.
Utilizes evidence-based clinical practice standards in the delivery of care to this specific patient population.
Obtains patient health histories and completes physical examinations.
Documents data noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings.
Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests.
Explains the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patients, family members, staff and healthcare learners.
Performs approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patient clinical status.
Documents patient preparation and response to procedure(s).
Formulates and implements treatment plan for acute illness management in collaboration with the ICU supervising physician and/or designated supervising physician(s).
Participates in and lead multidisciplinary rounds.
Documents in medical records and appropriate narrative summaries.
Utilizes prescriptive privileges as allowed by the Arkansas State Medical Board and Arkansas State Board of Nursing.
Documents all prescriptions in patients medical record.
Assesses patient for change in status and institutes appropriate interventions. Initiates necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patient.
Provides family-centered care by communicating with the family regarding the changing health care needs of their family member.
Assesses family adaptation, coping skills and the need for crisis or other intervention.
Research:

Incorporates current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice.
Incorporates clinical research findings in the development and implementation of standards of care.
Supports IRB approved clinical research trials through a variety of activities including but not limited to: obtaining consent; ordering diagnostic tests; recording laboratory & diagnostic results; administering therapeutic interventions; and documenting/reporting patient outcomes including toxicities or adverse events.
Performs and participates in quality performance improvement activities and clinical research.

Teaching, Consulting, and Leadership:

Serves as a clinical expert and leadership consultant to nursing, members of the healthcare team and to the larger community.
Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
Identifies and evaluates educational programs for nursing staff, interdisciplinary healthcare team, and the community.
Precepts novice nurse practitioners, other advanced practice nurses and healthcare learners.
Participates in the development, review and evaluation of CCNP practice protocols within legal guidelines in compliance with CHI policies.
Provides a role model for advanced practice professional nursing through conduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decision-making, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
Enhances the body of nursing knowledge or area of specialization through exchange of ideas and knowledge in professional organizations, oral presentations posters, research activities, and written publications.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AT THIS LEVEL:

Education/Training:

Completion of a Masters Degree/Post-Masters Certificate in Nursing from an accredited Adult-Gerontology Acute Care (AGACNP) or Acute Care (ACNP) Nurse Practitioner program.

Experience:

Three years minimum as a Registered Nurse in an ICU setting with a minimum of one year experience as a Critical Care Nurse Practitioner.

Licensure/Certification:

National certification as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care (AGACNP) or Acute Care (ACNP) Nurse Practitioner required prior to employment.
Current licensure as an APRN with prescriptive authority in the State of Arkansas.
Demonstration and maintenance all credentialing and licensing requirements of CHI/St. Vincent Healthcare System.
Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
