Responsible for the coordination, nutritional evaluation, and medical nutrition therapy plan for patients in specialized areas. Responsible for educating members of the health care team on the science of nutrition.
Bachelors Degree from Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) approved fouryear program in Food and Nutrition or related field required. Masters Degree in Nutrition, Science, Business or related field preferred. Current registration with Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), and Massachusetts State Licensure is required.
Assesses patients utilizing laboratory and anthropometric data, and routinely documents findings in the medical record using the Nutrition Care Process.
Recommends modified diets or/and provides nutrition support to specialized areas by recommending parenteral and enteral formulas. Calculates nutrient content and recommends appropriate feeding regimen based on patient status.
Makes recommendations of fluid and electrolyte management.
Interacts routinely with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, etc. to facilitate and deliver effective patient care. Develops and updates surgical nutrition protocols.
Functions as nutrition expert at medical and patient care rounds on a daily or weekly basis. Recommends any changes required in nutrition care plan.
