Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, is seeking a flexible Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to be a part of the psychiatry hospital division multidisciplinary treatment team providing care to children, adolescents, and adults who require mental/behavioral health care. This highly professional clinician provides care primarily to patients on the inpatient units with opportunity for professional and clinical advancement to more autonomous roles in the Emergency Department, Hospital Consult/Liaison service, and outpatient programs/clinics for child/adolescent and adult populations. The NP/PA works closely with the consultant psychiatrist and the multidisciplinary team in clinical decision making and treatment planning. In this role, the NP/PA is one of several advanced practice providers in a supportive team environment.
The NP/PA professional responsibilities may include participating in daily inpatient psychiatric rounds, admission interview and physical examination, managing ongoing medical and psychiatric issues, assessing new health concerns, managing psychiatric and medical emergencies, working with consulting services in the work-up of developing medical issues and providing patients and families with education. There may be the opportunity to work in the Emergency Department and Hospital Consult/Liaison Service, as well as outpatient services including Adult Transitions Program, Child and Adolescent Integrated Mood Program (CAIMP), Pediatric Transitions Program, and various other outpatient assessment and medication management clinics. New hires will orient to all hospital services, then preferences for certain specialty areas and patient populations will be considered.
The NP/PA works collaboratively in the provider/prescriber role to improve the quality of patient care and facilitate favorable outcomes in the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology Hospital Division. The NP/PA is an essential member of the multi-specialty team including NPs/PAs, psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, registered nurses, occupational/physical therapists, and recreation therapists.
