Provides Child Life evaluation, treatment, teaching, and consultation to infant, toddler, latent, and adolescent patients on inpatient rehabilitation units, with ability to provide coverage in OR and/or inpatient mental health units when needed. Implements services in accordance with departmental standards and specific hospital protocols.
Administers patient evaluations and applied evaluation techniques to determine functional status and identify service needs.
Provides evaluations, re-evaluations, and progress notes in an appropriate time period which meets current standards of practice.
Provides direct services on inpatient units totaling 42 beds, including assessments, developmental play and stimulation, medical play and patient education, behavior plans and support, therapy co-treats, group activities, family and sibling support, bereavement support, and special programming.
Administers patient evaluations and applies evaluation techniques to determine developmental age, understanding, and identify service needs.
Assists patients with selection and rehearsal of coping skills relevant to the childs developmental age and experience. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team and psychology to increase coping, manage anxiety, create behavior plans to increase compliance and/or participation in therapies, and address overall adjustment to illness and hospitalization.
Conduct medical play with patients and families to facilitate understanding of medical care and normalization to environment.
Evaluates and reports patient progress in multidisciplinary rounds, to family and to supervisor. Maintains communication with other members of treatment team to ensure coordinated effort.
Evaluates and determines appropriate patients for inclusion in Child Life groups.
Coordinates community outings for appropriate inpatients as a means of facilitating successful community re-entry, a means of diversion from hospitalization and enhancement of normal growth and development.
Participates in the selection, training, supervision and evaluation of Child Life Interns.
Selects, trains, supervises, evaluates and terminates volunteers on the medical inpatient units.
Successfully completes hospital and department orientation and ongoing mandatory educational requirements.
Bachelor's degree in a related field required. Masters preferred
Experience:1 year or more of experience in Child Life
Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) license through ACLP required

Schedule: 40 hours a week, one weekend day
