Position Summary: The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for performing an anesthesia assessment including a History and Physical for assigned Perioperative procedures. The Nurse Practitioner will order testing or consults based on the PAT protocols set up by the Medical Director and review the results for abnormal findings. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for notifying the Surgeon and/or anesthesia of abnormal test results.
Essential Job Functions:
Maintain current knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Obtain and compile data for medical histories on patients, and perform complete and comprehensive physical examinations. Complete necessary paperwork for inclusion in patient chart.
Order and/or administer lab tests and X-rays based on PAT protocol, as ordered by physician, and as determined by history and physical assessment. Write orders on the patient's chart as deemed necessary and appropriate.
Review all laboratory and X-ray data collected and contact physician and/or anesthesiologist as needed if abnormal results occur. Initiate necessary requests for medical clearance with appropriate providers, as a result of assessment and examination. Ensure medical clearances are complete to prevent surgical cancellations.
Provide patient with education and explain treatment plans as directed by physician. Appropriately answer patient questions. Implement plan of care for scheduled procedures. Provide age appropriate care to patients.
Participates in team member development programs. Attends scheduled staff meetings and assume responsibility for information discussed. Participate in the I3/Lean initiative at Lake Health. Maintain annual competencies.
Education and Experience: Master Degree Required. Valid Nurse Practitioner Certification in the State of Ohio, BLS. 2 years experience preferred
