Cambridge Breast Center is looking for a specialty nurse practitioner to help manage the breast patient population in the ambulatory breast care setting. The specialty clinic NP has a strong foundation in evidence based practice/education and is responsible for ensuring adherence to national guidelines/protocols and ensures an environment of safe quality care.
Job Purpose: Assessment of Health Status Performs and documents in the medical record a complete history and physical examination for acute and complex chronically ill patients. Orders and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated. Coordinates daily clinic schedule with the attending physician team, presents patient report, collaborates in plan of care, and follows assigned patient population. Diagnosis Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care team in making diagnoses of acute and complex chronic conditions. Manages diagnostic tests through ordering, interpretation, performance, and supervision. Formulates differential diagnoses by priority. Diagnoses complications and orders appropriate interventions. Formulates Plan of Care Identifies expected outcomes from diagnosis, and formulates and documents a plan of care to address complex acute and chronic health care needs. Utilizes evidenced based practice guidelines or protocols in an individualized, dynamic plan of care that can be applied across the continuum. Collaborates with the clinical research team to discuss potential studies that the patient(s) may be eligible to participate. Implements and modifies plan of care Prescribes diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions both pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic, and surgical, needed to achieve expected outcomes. Manages further diagnostic tests through ordering, interpretation, performance, and supervision. May perform advanced procedures consistent with privileges and competency validation, including minor suturing, complex wound management, line and tube placements and removals. Instructs patient/family regarding medications and treatments. Educates patients regarding health promotion/illness prevention. Recommends appropriate community resources to meet patient/family needs Documentation Documents/dictates key components of patient's progress
Qualifications/Requirements: EDUCATION/TRAINING: BSN, MSN required. Graduation from a certified graduate nurse practitioner program. EXPERIENCE: Three years of nursing experience, surgical experience preferred. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: State Licensure in DC as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner certification with prescriptive privileges. BLS Certification. State Licensures in MA as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner certification. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practice and medical care to give and evaluate patients. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care. Skill in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to maintain calm & effective in emergency situations. Excellent inter-personal & communication skills with a broad spectrum of professionals, including attending physicians, residents, medical students, trainees, support staff, and hospital management. Consideration will be given to an appropriate combination of education/training and experience.
