Job Description


Administers radiation to patients as prescribed by the radiation oncologist.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Graduation from an accredited program in Radiation Therapy Technology.

License/Certification:
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (T) required
Current licensure as a Radiologic Technologist in Arkansas required
Current healthcare provider BLS CPR certification

Experience:
One year of directly related work experience that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities preferred

Physical Requirements:
Assists with lifting and moving patients
Frequent prolonged standing/walking

Skills:
Competent to provide radiation therapy to patients

Services Skills:

PRIMARY CUSTOMERS: Patients, families, physicians, and co-workers

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs time out procedure on each patient prior to administering radiation therapy per department policy.
Performs daily set up of patient treatment as prescribed by radiation oncologist and delivers daily dose of radiation according to treatment prescription.
Observes patient for any unusual reactions or events
Prepares room and equipment for patient.
Reinforces recommendations given to patient by the Physician, Nutritionist. concerning reaction to treatment and care of the radiated area, prevention or treatment of generalized and local side effects.
Enters correct information into computer for billing of patients.
Assumes responsibility for machine warm up procedures.
Schedules patients for daily treatment in appropriate time slots to allow ample time for individual procedure.
Takes proper care of equipment and notifies manager of any equipment failures, malfunctions or changes in operation.
Performs equipment warm-up procedures; maintains treatment machines and accessories; informs proper personnel of equipment malfunctions.
Keeps treatment room clean, neat and orderly. Keeps control area free of clutter and personal items.
Maintains awareness of individual patient needs.
Maintains safe environment for patients.
Obtains weekly port imaging and obtains approval prior to continuing treatment.
Enhances professional growth and development of self and others through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
Maintains established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
In cooperation with other team members, assures the timely and efficient delivery of service to the patients using our facility.
Performs other duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as required to meet the needs of the department.
