Position Summary/Essential Duties for Children’s Surgery Program Manager
The Clinical Manager provides strategic direction and leadership to the Medical Director of Children’s Surgery.
Partners with the Medical Director to manage day to day operations of the Children’s Surgery Program (Children’s Surgery Verification—CSV--level pending)
Responsible for operational processes in which the surgery team cares for patients both internally and externally from pre-hospital to rehabilitation services or interfacility transfer.
Works collaboratively with the Medical Director to coordinate, evaluate and facilitate implementation and monitoring of quality standards across the continuum of care; includes planning and implementation of clinical protocols and proactive management guidelines, monitoring care of in-hospital patients, and serving as a resource for surgical quality improvement.
Fulfills the role of Children’s Surgery Program Manager as described by the American College of Surgeons in the “Optimal Resource for Children’s Surgical Care.”
Maintains list of reportable events and reviews all cases for the purposes of Process Improvement and Patient Safety Committee
Collaborates with the quality team to oversee the quality program and provision of care to patients; ensures that the quality of service provided is in compliance with regulatory requirements and hospital policy.
Builds and retains a talented and inspired workforce by developing, engaging and empowering all personnel in the Children’s Surgery Program (including Surgical Clinical Reviewer) in order to fulfill their potential and the UH vision.
Responsible for leading and facilitating strategic program growth; provides input to the strategic planning process and coordinates the implementation of strategic initiatives relating to Children’s Surgery verification.
Accountable and responsible to the achievement of organizational and financial goals
Assesses the educational needs of all surgical practitioners within the auspices of the CSV program and monitors compliance with educational requirements
Acts as a liaison between the Children’s Surgery Program, Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital (RB&C) and University Hospitals of Cleveland in matters pertaining to the care of pediatric surgical patients
Responsible for facilitating multidisciplinary trauma operations meetings and identifying and implementing necessary changes
Serves as a liaison to administration, and represents the Children’s Surgical Program on hospital, community and state committees as designated
Takes responsibility for self-development and supports a learning environment
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing required; Master’s Degree preferred
Demonstrates skill in human relations
Evidence of potential to provide clinical coordination and leadership
Expertise in the coordination of patient services and care
Required Credentials, Licensure or Certification (i.e. RN, RRT):
Registered Nurse currently licensed to practice in Ohio
PALS Provider Certification
PALS Instructor Certification preferred
Experience & Knowledge:
Demonstrates competence in pediatric nursing with emphasis in surgery
Demonstrated skill in process improvement
Experience in leading change
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Experience in nursing management preferred
3-5 years of nursing experience required
3 years of experience in ED, ICU or PICU preferred
Special Skills & Equipment Knowledge:
Interpersonal skills, leadership ability and experience in both nursing and education
