Job Description


Maintains credentials through AAPC or AHIMA
Keeps abreast of all new coding developments by attending any coding classes, reading articles on coding updates, and attending seminars when available
Reviews orders to be sure all necessary elements are included (diagnosis, signature, date and time)
Properly assigns ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes to outpatient visits for ancillary departments (Lab, Radiology, etc)
Properly assigns ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes on Rehab accounts when available with signed POC for Medicare patients and on admission for other payers
Properly assigns ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes for all recurring accounts (except IVT)
Routinely performs a follow-up on old accounts to assure proper documentation is received to allow coding to be completed
Maintains department specific productivity standards with a 95% accuracy rate
Performs other coding and backup duties in the department as needed
Respects patient confidentiality at all times

Job Requirements

Preferred Qualifications/Education:

At least one year coding instruction in qualified program or one year coding experience in hospital setting

Licenses and/or Certifications:

Must maintain credentials of CPC or COC through AAPC or RHIT, CCA or CCS through AHIMA

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to use Microsoft Office recommended, primarily in Word and Excel
