Provide comprehensive eye exams, emergency follow up care, glaucoma co-management, vision rehabilitation services, and same day service care. Prescribe eyeglasses or contact lenses as needed.
Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree.
Current license to practice in Massachusetts.
One year ASCO accredited residency training program (ocular disease or cornea and specialty contact lens training preferred), and fellowship or candidacy for fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry.
Proficiency in the fitting of hard contact lenses (PMMA, RGP) in conventional, bitoric and bifocal designs, and soft contact lenses (daily and extended wear) in conventional, toric, and bifocal designs is required. Contact lens fitting experience should include the correction of refractive errors, aphakia, keratoconus, grafted and repaired traumatized eyes.
Two years of full time work experience in an office practice or other clinical setting providing comprehensive and contact lens services is preferred.
Residency training in ocular disease and vision rehabilitation preferred.
Experience with scleral lens fits, pediatric fits, hard lens modifications, clinical research studies, data processing, pachymetry, corneal topography data and endothelial cell evaluation are desirable.
Examine, diagnose, treat, and manage disorders of the visual system, eye diseases, and injuries.
Performs vision tests and analyzes data.
Diagnoses sight problems, such as nearsightedness or farsightedness and eye diseases such as glaucoma.
Prescribes eyeglasses, contact lenses, and medications.
Provides treatments such as vision therapy or low-vision rehabilitation.
Provide pre- and postoperative care to patients undergoing eye surgeryfor example, examining a patients eyes the day after surgery
Evaluate patients for the presence of diseases such as diabetes and refer patients to other healthcare providers as needed
Promote eye health by counseling patients, including explaining how to clean and wear contact lenses
Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
Respects diverse views and approaches, and contributes in maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
