The Purchasing Agent will maintain processes that keep open lines of communication between vendor and users to ensure supplies are obtained accurately, timely, and at the best cost. The Purchasing Agent is responsible for ensuring cost containment through price and vendor analysis, prior to the composition of purchase orders. The cost containment is maintained through ongoing contract updating and product evaluation at levels that meet or exceed customers needs.
Works with all hospital departments in assisting with all product and equipment inquiries such as, but not limited to; contract pricing, availability, standardization with current products. Researches all non-stock requests for best pricing and within contract guidelines.
Responsible and accountable for the research and identification of product/materials available for contract pricing.
Works closely with GPO Representative to ensure best contracts for SMH supplies and equipment.
Works closely with SMH department managers to acquire quotes and best possible pricing for supplies and equipment.
Responsible for soliciting bids when necessary.
Utilize computer to generate pertinent reports.
Assist in annual Supply Chain Management inventory.
Evaluate vendor performance based on pricing and on-time deliveries.
Develop excellent working relationships with Supply Chain Management manager.
Maintains computer data base with current information on item description, quantity, vendor, and unit of measure.
Reviews items to ensure information is correct, accurate, and up to date.
Education/Experience/Licenses and Certifications
High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), required.
At least two (2) years of experience with the procurement function in the healthcare environment or equivalent.
CMRP: Certified Materials and Resource Professionals, preferred
Previous experience in Materials purchasing and/or Inventory Control
