CLINICAL DIETITIAN - INPATIENT

Provides inpatient clinical nutrition services to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital patients. Completes nutrition assessments and other services per policy. Conducts individual and group teaching (patient & employee) as required. Attends meetings and care conferences, and provides input regarding all aspects of clinical nutrition care.
B.A. or B.S. degree in Nutrition and Dietetics
LICENSURE and CERTIFICATION
Registration from the Commission on Dietetic Registration
License by the Montana State Board of Medical Examiners (new graduates who have passed CDR exam will have 30-days to present license and must present license prior to beginning direct patient care).
CDE preferred or previous experience with Diabetes Self-Management Education
Successful completion of ADA/CDR approved internship - Registration Eligible
Inpatient assigned RD only: Achieved Level 2 competencies as defined by AADE (exam required).
Inpatient assigned RD only: Level 3 competencies required within 6 months of employment.
2 years clinical dietetics experience
KNOWLEDGE OF, SKILLS IN, ABILITY TO, COMPLEXITY AND DIFFICULY:
Application of Medical Nutrition Therapy
Enteral and parenteral nutrition
Diabetes Self Management Education including medication therapy
Dialysis nutrition preferred
Teaching various nutrition therapy/concepts including Diabetes Self Management Education
Personal Computers, hardware and basic software programs including e-mail, word processing, and spreadsheets.
Age appropriate Nutrition counseling and assessments
Advanced oral and written communication skills
Group teaching and presentations
Refer to policy manual for specific instructions/guidelines.

COMPLEXITY AND DIFFICULTY:
Work independently with minimal supervision.
Mentally and physically perform duties of the position.
Provides Medical Nutrition Therapy and delivers nutrition and diabetes education. 50% of time spent as listed % below:
45% Time Spent - Conducts and documents nutrition screens, assessments and consults incluidng nutrition support and critical care MNT for inpatients of BDHS
10% Time Spent - Provides nutrition education to patients and families
25% Time Spent - Acts as the inpatient Diabetes Educator for all patients newly diagnosed with diabetes and as the primary resource for diabetes care to nursing and providers including insulin protocol monitoring and dosing adjustments.
5% Time Spent - Participates as liaison between other patient service departments and food services
5% Time Spent - Communicates patient nutrition needs to other clinical departments and providers
10% Time Spent - ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Participates in multi-disciplinary care conferences and hospital committees as assigned
Bills for professional services.
Works with department manager on establishing standards of care, policy and procedures
Coordinates patient care with outside agencies, clinics and other health care professionals
Completes monthly QI monitors and implements actions for improvement
Provides in-service training for nursing and other departments as requested
Mentors Students and organizing work experiences
Participates in community education activities
Monitors performance and in-services of Menu Representative as requested
Participate and assists with coordination of on-call responsiblities
If working as a leased employee for Fresenius Medical Clinic as a renal dietitian 50% of time spent (currently approved for 14 hours/week with FMC)
