Job Description

Under the broad direction of the Board, is responsible for the management of the hospital and carrying out the philosophy and objectives established by the governing board.  Is directly responsible for the general direction and supervision of hospital operations, financial affairs, nursing, and diagnostic and therapeutic patient care services.  Is directly responsible for maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local codes, regulations and ordinances as they apply to hospitals.  OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Class I.

  • Works with the governing body to prepare plans for the future operation and viability of the hospital.

  • Assesses the level of quality health care services by working with the governing body, medical staff and nursing, and patient support personnel.

  • Promotes cost-effective operations and provision of health care services.

  • Attains hospital objectives by obtaining needed qualified staff and retaining and motivating that staff by providing personnel management, benefit, and development programs.

  • Ensures compliance with regulations and the rules of accrediting agencies by monitoring the hospital’s service delivery and initiating changes if needed.

  • Markets the hospital in the service area by using effective communications and public relations programs.

  • As the governing body’s representative provides the executive level leadership and management for the hospital.

  • And other duties assigned.


  • Education: Four-year college graduate.  Masters degree in Hospital or Health Care Administration or a related field preferred. 

  • Personal Job-Related Skills: Ability to provide overall direction and management for the total organization.

  • Licensure, Registry or Certification: None required. 

  • Prior Work Experience:  Three or more years working as an Associate, Assistant, or Administrator of a hospital or health care organization.

  • Technical Training:  None required. 

  • Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require moderate periods of sitting and standing, lifting up to 25 pounds.
