The Bioinformatics and Data Science group at Dana Farber Cancer Institute is seeking intelligent, hard-working and dynamic individuals to join our expanding data science team. The Bioinformatics and Data Science group at DFCI encompasses expertise in data science, machine learning, bioinformatics and NLP. The successful candidate will have proven experience in leading and executing independent large complex projects, and some experience of supervision of junior staff.

This newly formed group serves some of the most prominent research and clinical programs at the Institute, from basic research to translational research, to clinical diagnostics and operations. As we widen our support of several crucial centers and programs at DFCI, we seek senior experts with the ability to lead projects independently and who can provide superior data science support for our key initiatives and centers in need of advanced analyses. The Bioinformatics and Data Science group seeks to develop a highly interdisciplinary environment to support the overall mission of the institute and contribute to maintaining superior cancer care to our pediatric and adult patient population.


Meet and consult with scientists requiring data science support; design unique project plans and solutions
Delivery of results for specific projects
Work as part of the broader team to identify longer-term solutions that will improve quality, speed and efficacy of the Bioinformatics and Data Science Groups current projects/programs
Evaluate and benchmark new libraries; prototype and pipeline development
Utilize deep data science skills at the interface of computer science and statistics
Ability to work independently, prioritize, and manage people if needed, within an environment with ever changing priorities
Exhibit strong knowledge and utilize data science methodologies and techniques (e.g. hypothesis testing, classification, regression, clustering, feature allocation, deep learning, time-series analysis, network modeling, feature selection/engineering)

Significant scientific background with prior experience in clinical research
Prior experience with analysis of Tissue Microarray (TMA) required
Prior experience with data transformation and data engineering required
Prior experience with image analysis using machine learning techniques, preferably on healthcare, pathology, radiology data (eg: TMA, DICOM, Microscopy images, etc.) required
Natural language processing experience preferred
Shiny, Spyre, Flask, WebDev and prototyping experience preferred
JupyterHub, Sun Grid Engine, Google Cloud Platform, AWS experience preferred
Excellent communication and effective problem-solving skills, track record in serving a variety of diverse customers and projects


PhD or equivalent experience with evidence of impact in data science applied to real life problems in a research setting ideally within a clinical research environment
2+ years of experience post PhD, preferably in a clinical research environment
Prior supervisory experience preferred
