Baystate Wing Hospital (BWH) is a 74-bed community hospital in Palmer that offers 24-hour emergency care as well as a broad range of inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical and cardiology services, including comprehensive outpatient behavioral health and addiction recovery services. In 2018, the hospital opened a new emergency department to treat patients in a state-of-the-art care environment featuring 18 private rooms, co-located imaging services, as well as a fast track service. The hospital also has an outpatient satellite facility located in Ware; Baystate Mary Lane Outpatient Center (BMLOC) offers 24-hour emergency services, and a broad range of outpatient medical and endoscopy services, cancer services through the Baystate Regional Cancer Program, and wound care through the Baystate Mary Lane Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Program. Together, Baystate Wing Hospital, Baystate Mary Lane Outpatient Center, and the hospitals affiliated community physician practices serve patients living in Hampden, Hampshire and Worcester counties.

The Lab Manager, under the direction of the Director and under the medical direction of qualified pathologist (MD), the regional manager of laboratory is responsible for administrative and technical oversight of the BWH and BMLOC laboratories; the development and maintenance of all policies, procedures and quality program; the management and supervision of the laboratory technical and clerical staff; the development and administration of the department budget; and the maintenance of effective physician and inter/intradepartmental relations. Ensures compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements (DPH, CAP, AABB, Joint Commission, CMS. Ensures timely reporting of test results and communication of critical or unusual results to clinical staff.

Incumbent is a member of Eastern Region Diagnostic Services Division, the Eastern Region Management Teams at BWH/BMLOC, and the Baystate Consolidated Laboratories Core Managers team. Reporting directly to the incumbent are clinical section leads, technologists, technicians, phlebotomists, lab aide, and clerical staff. Under Federal regulations, the Laboratory Director, (MD or PhD) is accountable for overall clinical operation and administration of the laboratory. The Manager supports the Laboratory Director with regard to these responsibilities.

Coordinate department orientation with new employees. Assist and/or conduct employee performance appraisals and payroll. Assist and/or c employee performance appraisals and payroll. Assist and/or conduct corrective actions as needed with employees. Oversee department Q.A. programs. Uses critical thinking skills and independent judgement to make departmental decisions.

What you will need?

Bachelor Science Degree in Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry or Physics required

MT (ASCP) Certification

Minimum five to ten years supervisory experience in hospital-based clinical laboratory setting

Experience in Regulatory and Accreditation of Laboratory operations

Excellent customer relations skills; high level communication skills in both written and oral

High level computer skills and understanding of Laboratory Information Systems, Word, Excel and other applications, etc.
