Candidate must be registered through RDCS or registry-eligible, post graduation
New graduates, eligible for hire, are expected to obtain registration within a year of hire date
Sonographer is expected to independently perform complete transthoracic studies, following ANW written protocols for adult echo
All competencies for the department must be passed within 90 days of hire
Orientation will occur over 6 weeks with a senior sonographer
Sonographer must be competent to document a written preliminary for each study
Sonographer must be competent to recognize abnormal, life threatening situations and alert appropriate physician to these findings effectively
Sonographer must know sterile technique, to assist with pericardial centesis
Sonographer must demonstrate ability to assist cardiologist with transesophageal exams
Knowledge of proper TEE probe disinfecting techniques must be demonstrated and annually assessed
Sonographer must demonstrate technical competency in the use of contrast agents
Sonographer must stay current in their CME status and be responsible for obtaining and recording these credits
Sonographer must be physically able to move ultrasound equipment to bedside for portable exams
Sonographer must demonstrate competency in using excellian, navicare, and syngo
Sonographer will be expected to present two powerpoint correlations annually, as required for accreditation
Sonographer must be willing to and able to assume call responsibilities within 3 months of hire
Sonographer must maintain biannual BLS certification


High school diploma, or GED
AS, AAS or BS in cardiac ultrasound from an accredited health care program
2 year of technical training and greater than 2 years experience performing cardiac ultrasound (sonographers registered before 1980)


New graduate with minimum of 6 month clinical training from accredited cardiac ultrasound program
0-3 years of competency performing adult echo
0-3 years assisting with transesophageal echo
Eligible to begin training in stress echo

Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology
Understanding basic ultrasound physics
Ability to document a written preliminary summary of technical findings, using all modalities of cardiac exam
Assist with Transesophageal echo
Competency in utilizing epic and navicare software in patient care setting
Maintain appropriate infection control precautions
Identify a life-threatening situation and carry out emergency care
Maintain semiannual BLS certification

RDCS or RDMS registration in Adult echo (or registry eligible)
BLS certification

Work Schedule

Casual echo tech needed for week and weekend shifts as well as call.
