Exhibits professional competence in areas of communication, critical thinking and psychosocial assessment in providing genetic counseling services to patients and in phone consultations/triage for MD/RN in are of:Advanced Maternal Age
Abnormal serum screening and ultrasound screens
Personal/Family history of genetic diseases
Prenatal exposures
Consanguinity
Abnormal Prenatal diagnosis results
Ethnicity

Utilizes critical thinking skills by providing testing options and conducting risk assessments:Family and pregnancy history risk assessment: management and testing options and limits for options. Obtaining pedigrees.
Discuss issues related to natural history prognosis, treatment, complications and outcomes.
Discuss relevant options to deal with risks along with limitations, goals, accuracy and other pertinent concerns.

Provides education for individuals and families related to screening, risks and diagnosis
Supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the system hospital, program, and department and through own behavior, leads and motivates others to do so
Participates in growth and self-development activities to enhance the role
Promotes cohesiveness and peer support among staff and program colleagues
Utilizes assessment process to provide safe, effective, quality patient care
Develops an individualized education plan to achieve identified learning needs
Advocates for patient/family
Demonstrates exceptional customer service approach in interactions with others
Participates in quality improvement activities to evaluate and improve patient care
Utilizes resources effectively and efficiently
Provides leadership in program development, program marketing, and education

Education

Graduate from a specialized program in medical genetics and counseling
Masters degree required

Qualification/Skills

Experience
Experience in prenatal genetics counseling preferred

Skills
Strong knowledge base in genetics counseling
Critical thinking skills
Excellent customer service skills
The ability to establish effective relationships with health care team members
Skillful in teaching others

Licensure/Certifications
Passed boards and certified by American Board of Genetic Counseling
Current MN license

24 hours a week

Exempt position
This position, joins a team of genetic counselors that cover 6 Minnesota Perinatal Clinics and one outreach location. Our main locations are in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Maple Grove, Coon Rapids Woodbury and Edina. May involve travel to Fargo.

Shifts begin between 7-8am, although this is can vary based on additional program needs and/or meetings.
8 hour shifts.

Must be able to travel to all locations as needed to cover clinical needs.
