Job Description


DUKE CONSULTATION & REFERRAL CENTER - DUKE ACCESSIBILITY RESOURCE CENTER GENERAL DESCRIPTION Responsible for using working knowledge of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and American with Disabilities Amendment Act (2008) to serve as a subject matter expert to meet the special needs of patients during the scheduling process.
These individuals would be experts in the various resources available at Duke to aide in serving our patients through interdisciplinary collaboration to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Duties Be the primary point of contact for patients with physical impairments such as low or no vision and/or hearing impairments who are wanting to gain access to Duke Health services.
Serve as a liaison with the various scheduling teams throughout Duke to insure that the patients special needs are adequately assessed and subsequently met.
Serve as a resource for any Duke department to assist in assessing a patients ADA related special needs and insuring that the needs are met.
Assist DUHS Compliance with routine audits by conducting research, summarizing results and providing feedback.
Monitor Epic patient work queues to address any potential issues for a patients special needs that have either not been met or not properly documented.
Provide feedback and training (when necessary) to the operational area in which the issue originated.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS/ PREFERENCESA high school diploma or equivalent is required.
College or completions of post-secondary education is preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS/ PREFERENCES Minimum of 2 years of health care related or call center experience.
An associate degree or higher may substitute for the experience requirement.

WORKING CONDITIONSMust be able to work under time pressures in a busy clinic/office environment.
Must be present on site for 8 hour shifts during standard business hours.
Must be able to react quickly and immediately respond to emergencies.
Must be able to handle multiple assignments, conflicting demands & priorities.
Must maintain attention to detail over extended period of time.
Must be continually aware of variations in changing situations.
Must be able to move throughout office environment throughout day.
