Summary: The Risk Manager is responsible for administering the risk management/patient safety program on a day-to-day basis which includes investigating, analyzing and trending risk management/patient safety events and data, conducting risk management and patient safety educational programs, complying with licensing, accrediting and regulatory obligations with the objectives of enhancing patient, visitor and employee safety; promoting quality care; and protecting the assets of the organization. Thinks strategically about risk and safety exposures, develops teams able to critically investigate situations, evaluate potential solutions, and develop recommendations that create value and fit within the risk and safety philosophy of the organization. A major focus is on potential medical malpractice and general liability claims. Responsible for identifying and implementing measures to improve patient safety and quality of care and decrease/limit risk. Keeps abreast of changing legislation, standards and policies that affect risk management and the hospital.
Risk Manager experience in healthcare setting required
A minimum of 5 years of experience in Healthcare Risk Management or Patient Care Management required
Proven ability to function independently and communicate effectively at all levels of an organization required.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in fundamentals of performance improvement, patient safety and risk management (Root Cause Analysis, Failure Modes Effects Analysis, Disclosure, basic statistics, run charts, control charts etc.)
Must have strong organizational, analytical and computer technology skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint); Database experience preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Good listening skills
Comfortable in emotionally charged settings with patients, families and / or staff
Experience in conflict resolution
Prior experience in direct responsibility for regulatory affairs and claims management strongly preferred
BSN Required with Current Massachusetts RN license
Masters Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Management or related field. Preferred
Certification in risk management (CPHRM) or obtained within the first two years
