Our Psychiatry Program is one of the longest-running and most diversified psychiatric services at a general hospital in Boston. The dedicated members of the interdisciplinary team offer comprehensive psychiatric and neuropsychological evaluation for the full range of psychiatric problems, from depression and anxiety to bipolar disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and learning disorders. We regularly treat patients who have suffered trauma and conditions that are co-morbid (associated) with other medical conditions.
About the Position:
The Mental Health Counselor is a member of the multidisciplinary patient treatment team. He/she implements clinical care responsibilities in accordance with unit/departmental policies, procedures and standards under the supervision of a registered nurse. The Mental Health Counselor must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients ranging in age from pre-school to adolescence on the Child Unit and ages 19 through senior adulthood on the adult unit.
Graduate of college program with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, sociology or related human service field
BLS certification required
Demonstrated skill in developing helpful relationships with patients, families and staff
Ability to use a variety of medical equipment necessary in the delivery of quality patient care
Has the skills and knowledge to provide care to the age groups of the population served including: knowledge of growth and development and provide age appropriate communication
Patient care skills acquired through one year of previous direct patient care experience preferred
