The Director of Pastoral Care directs a department of six chaplains providing 24/7 coverage. In addition there are twelve volunteer chaplains who are local clergy and/or have oounseling and spiritual care degrees. 25 Patient Companions are lay volunteers implementing the "No one should die alone" principle. Volunteers provide an average of 4,000 hours of patient care a year.
The hospital is ranked by Truven Health Analytics as one of the top 100 in the country and you 50 for cardiac care. Medicare states that it is the only four star hospital in the area. The hospital is in partnership with the Mayo Clinic and National Childrens' Hospital.
Arlington is a suburb of Washington D.C., with the opportunites of the city and the rolling hills of Virginia immediately accessible.
Purpose and Scope:
Provide pastoral care to patients, their families, employees and staff to assist in the Hospital's operating effectiveness and efficiency in patient care. Coordinates pastoral care programs with the activities of other departments. Counsels patients, families, employees and staff. Provides as part of the hospital's total patient care a religious ministry primarily to patients, but also to the families of patients and to the hospital community. Serves as a liaison with the community clergy, congregations, community agencies and professional and service clubs to provide a resource and to secure their cooperation.
Bachelor's Degree, Seminary Degree, Mastor of Divinity or equivalent is preferred. Experience beyond ordination is preferred. Board Certification as a Chaplain is preferred.
