Physical Therapy Assistant

The Physical Therapy Assistant works under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist to carry out physical therapy programs in the hospital for inpatients or outpatients, to facilitate the rehabilitation of the mentally or physically handicapped. The staff PTA provides direct patient focused care to include the implementation of treatment plans designed by the PT and quality treatment to meet short and long term goals determined by the PT according to the patients needs. The staff PTA may work with any /all patients of the following age groups based upon individual responsibility, training, and competency: Infants (age 0-18 months), Children (age 19 months-12 years), Adolescents (age 13 years 17 years), Adults (age 18 years 64 years), and Geriatrics (age 65+ years). All PTs are required to have competency for adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups. Staff who will work with children or infants less than 13 years will require specific training and competencies demonstrated prior to working with pediatrics. The staff PTA also assists the director of the department in quality assurance and improvement activities and the overall operation of the physical therapy department. The PTA is required to perform the professional duties and standards of care as specified by the American Physical Therapy Association, state and federal laws and regulations, and TJC standards.
Associates degree from accredited PT assistant program. Must be able to read and write English.
New graduate is acceptable. Candidate must have current licensure or be eligible to apply for licensure in the state of Tennessee.

b. Candidate needs to have good organizational and problem solving skills and takes responsibility for own actions.
c. Candidate emphasizes excellence in patient care and customer relations. Candidate must be able to interact with all age groups, educational levels, and people with medical or cognitive problems in an effective, pleasant, courteous, and respectful manner.
d. Candidate is willing and able to be flexible and versatile in role functions.
e. Candidate is able to handle a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment while providing excellent quality of care.
f. FIM Certification within 90 days.
