Reporting to the Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer, the Director of Digital Marketing and Communications provides leadership and accountability for Dana-Farbers online marketing and communications initiatives, helping to make the Institute accessible to people around the world. The Director is responsible for both long-term strategic planning and the day-to-day operations of Dana-Farbers many web sites, digital marketing and social media programs. The Director is also responsible for efforts to enhance traffic and participation (SEO, SEM, etc.) to all of Dana-Farber online properties. The Director will be an essential part of Dana-Farbers efforts to expand its visibility and reputation, and to help people with cancer access the Institutes clinical care. By definition, most of the information the Director will work with will be of a very public nature. Nevertheless, the Communications department frequently handles information of varying confidentiality, and the Director will be expected to maintain the highest standards of professional discretion.
Works with other Directors and Managers to provide digital marketing strategies and tactics in support of their programs (national reputation, treatment programs, collaborative programs, etc.)
Collaborates with and advises clinical, research and administrative leadership in the use of digital assets and strategies to advance goals.
Supervises key creative and technical agencies and partners (e.g. digital design, technical support, content, analytics, etc.)
Manages the technical, design, editorial and social media staff in the continual development and refinement of web sites and social media properties.
Manages the budget for digital operations.
Oversees and implements multiple projects simultaneously and manages a team of developers, writers, social staff and strategic partners.
Responsible for SEO, SEM, social media, usability, brand adherence and effectiveness of the web properties.
Generates interest and maintains relationships with key institutional experts who contribute content.
Develops and implements interactive and social media strategies.
Creates editorial policy recommendations and guides contributors in policy compliance.
Leads and measures integrated online campaigns and projects on social and multimedia platforms.
Monitors and develops DFCI initiatives, on-line patient support, chat sessions with M.D.s, and fundraising programs.
Contracts and manages vendors and consultants for technology and design upgrades.
Responsible for key analytics and analysis.
Stays current with trends, issues, technologies and opportunities.
Supervises, recruits and develops the digital team to find and retain top talent, provide growth opportunities and promote engagement.
Will perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree (with a concentration in Marketing, Business Administration or Communications preferred) or equivalent experience required. MBA preferred
10 years of demonstrated professional experience in marketing, writing and web editing; preferably in a senior level role
Previous management experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Exceptional computer and technological skills (i.e. computers, printers, scanners etc.)
Must be able to coach knowledgeable experts to deliver clear and concise material on complex subjects.
In-depth understanding of web and digital technology.
The ability to lead an interdisciplinary professional team in project management to deliver work on-time and on-budget.
Excellent presentation and editing skills and the ability to set and maintain high editorial standards.
Enthusiasm and the ability to garner support and interest from contributors throughout the institute.
