Job Description

The Childbirth Education Instructor is responsible and accountable for planning, organizing, implementing educational activities for Childbirth Education classes.


Job duties specific to this position:
Creates an atmosphere conducive for learning.
Conducts an educational needs assessment for area(s) of responsibility on a regular basis.
Designs, organizes, implements, and evaluates Childbirth Education classes.
Develops curricula, instructional materials, tests, and evaluation tools, evaluates commercially produced materials, and maintains current educational supplies and equipment. Makes changes to the curricula based on feedback and current clinical and/or educational evidence.
Promotes evidence-based educational methods and technologies.
Establishes and maintains effective communication within areas of responsibility (MCH)
Maintains required data, records, and statistics for administrative, regulatory, and evaluation purposes for educational programs delivered.
Keeps current on best practice standards of childbirth education.
Promotes a culture of safety within the organization.
Attends meetings, conferences, and seminars as required.
Demonstrates use of quality improvement in daily operations.
Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements, including TJC.
Performs other similar and related duties as requested or directed.

Ability to adhere to regulatory and safety standards.
Knowledge of adult learning tools, theory and development.
Ability to facilitate work groups.
Demonstrated experience in curriculum design, development and delivery.
Demonstrated experience in quality management principles.
Effective group process and team building skills.
Demonstrated skills in didactic presentations, clinical skills assessment methodology and project management.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability in conflict resolution.
Working knowledge of computer software programs, desktop publishing and audio-visual equipment and materials.
Outstanding communication skills in written and spoken English.


Certification in Childbirth Education preferred.


Three to five years of recent childbirth education instruction preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.


Certification in specialty area desired.
