The Laboratory Assistant is capable of learning laboratory skills and position responsibilities as defined by individual job specific expectations. Communication, computer, and organizational skills are necessary. All functions and tasks are performed in accordance with established St. Francis Health System and Laboratory policies and procedures. He or she is responsible to have a general understanding of the theory of all methodologies within their scope of service, assess client needs, proactively participate in the implementation of improvement measures, verify test orders and ensure accuracy of testing to include patient preparation, pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic phases of testing and test results reporting. He or she will perform various duties of laboratory medicine within their scope of service that are performed within area of primary assignment, recognizing and resolving technical problems or consulting supervision for assistance with problem resolution when required. Individual will serve as an engaged and productive team player for their work group and organization. Laboratory and Corporate Compliance, as outlined by the OIG and CMS, is an important aspect of our laboratorys environment. Each employee is expected to be knowledgeable of, and behave in accordance with the Laboratory and Hospital System Compliance Plans. All functions should be performed and administered in compliance with CAP, AABB, Joint Commission, DHEC, CMS, OSHA and any other applicable accreditation or regulatory agency.
1. High School diploma or equivalent; completion of a Phlebotomy, Patient Care Tech, or other equivalent training program
2. Previous phlebotomy experience preferred.
