This position is performs various treatments, assessment of patient and evaluation of treatment. Administers drugs, oxygen and humidity, instructs patients on use of respiratory therapy equipment and breathing techniques that are compatible with the physician orders.
Supports the mission of the hospital through personal conduct including demonstrated concern for the people of all ages served and co-workers, contribution of ideas and suggestions, helpfulness and friendliness, regular attendance and punctuality, and adherence to hospital rules, policies and general expectations.
Safely delivers medications and performs treatments to aid patient in mobilizing secretions, relieving respiratory distress and increases oxygen levels.
Sets-up, operates and maintains necessary equipment in a safe manner to increase humidity and/or oxygen to a patient. Proficiently uses oximeter and O2 analyzer.
Sets-up, operates, maintains and trouble shoots equipment needed for mechanical ventilation of a patient to ensure safe operation for mechanical ventilation. Performs nasotracheal and tracheal suctioning.
Performs pulmonary function, holter monitor, EEG and cardiac event monitors testing to carry out physician orders.
Assesses patient and evaluates treatment for appropriateness and effectiveness following RT consult protocol.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation - exercise, testing and education.
Provides education for patient and/or family including patient and equipment safety.
Responds to Code Blue alarm and is responsible for ventilating the patient to ensure emergency respiratory care for patient and maintains CPR proficiency.
Completes a range of office duties such as filling out daily and monthly statistical reports, recording on patient charts, requisitioning supplies and completing charge tickets to maintain accurate medical records with efficient charges with office records. Uses hospital Intranet system on the P.C. for additional communication.
Utilizes proper infection control and safety techniques in handling patients and equipment. Applies these techniques to clean, sterilize, package and store respiratory therapy equipment to ensure well-being of the patient.
Checks all Respiratory Therapy supply areas within hospital to re-stock as needed.
