Provides leadership in the daily operations of a unit
Supports the Nursing Department philosophy through leadership, clinical practice and facilitation of staff growth
Maintains clinical expertise by providing direct patient care, acting as a charge nurse and serving as clinical resource
Actively supports and implements the principles of care coordination within defined practice areas
Works with unit leadership to identify and minimize barriers to providing coordinated care
Evaluates patient care programs, communicates need for change to unit leadership, and supports defined program changes as developed by leadership
Act as a recourse to patients and families, clinical nurses, interdisciplinary team, and medical staff to assure patient care requirements are assessed and met
Assures that diversity needs of patients are integrated into patient care practices
Uses communication techniques that reflect attention to the needs of the patient/family based on patient age and other special needs
Adapts performance of skills to meet age and other population specific needs for patients/customers served
Develops, implements and evaluates the plan of care based upon individual patient and family assessment including age specific needs
All applicants must show an ability to met their work agreement and demonstrate the ability to arrive to work on time and work habits that limit work beyond scheduled shift. Experience working as a charge nurse and a preceptor. New ACNMs will be required to work two shifts per schedule on the floor taking care of patients
The successful applicant must demonstrate via references and in the interview by providing examples of the following leadership abilities:
Demonstrated ability to negotiate change work loads and distributing work equitably
Demonstrated experience to prioritize and delegate patient care needs
Demonstrated ability to engage all staff (nurses, management, physicians and ancillary staff) to facilitate a collaborative environment
Ability to respond to conflict in positive, proactive manner and assist with resolution of issues
Consistent demonstration of commitment to and participation in professional growth and development evidenced by teaching new staff, engaging and mentoring staff and new grads, timely completion of all required competencies and personal continuing education
No disciplinary action in HR file
Others as determined by specific unit

Qualifications

Experience
Minimum two years experience in area of clinical specialty in an acute care setting
Experience as a charge nurse and a preceptor

Skills
Leadership skills including decision making, communication, problem solving, negotiation and conflict
Demonstrates caring behaviors of listening, respect, compassion and accepting individuality
Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient population served
This includes knowledge of growth and development over the life span, assessment and interpretation of the patient's status, identifying patient requirements relative to age and development

Licensure/Certifications
Current Minnesota Registered Nurse Licensure
BLS certification or completion within first 3 months of employment
