Women's & Children's Hospital

Women's & Children's Hospital has provided specialized healthcare services for women and children throughout Acadiana for 25 years.

The hospital was established in 1983 by a group of visionary obstetricians/gynecologists who felt the need to have a facility dedicated solely to the care of women. Initially called Women's Hospital of Acadiana, the hospital's name was changed in 1986 to Women's & Children's Hospital when pediatric services were added.

Since its inception, Women's & Children's Hospital has grown to become the second largest birthing hospital in Louisiana and the premier pediatric hospital in Acadiana, offering a wide range of specialty services for both women and children.

Focusing on the care and treatement of women through every stage of their life is one of the things Women's & Children's Hospital does best. The hospital's team of healthcare professionals is experienced in all facets of a woman's care including obstetrics, maternal-fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology, general and gynecological surgery, breast health, bone health, urology, urogynecology, physical therapy, sleep medicine and diagnostic services. The hospital also concentrates on awareness and prevention by offering a multitude of health screenings.

Women's & Children's Hospital has earned a reputation as the premier pediatric hospital in Acadiana because of the comprehensice services it offers for infants, children and adolescents. Those services include newborn care; a Level III regional neonatal intensive care unit (one of only eight in the state); a pediatric unit; a pediatric intensive care unit; a 24-hour children's emergency department; rehabilitation services such as speech, physical, occupational and pet therapy; audiology; sleep medicine; and diagnostic services including x-ray, MRI, CT and nuclear medicine.

The hospital also provides a wide range of specialty services for children such as surgery, neurosurgery, neurology, pulmonology, cardiology, orthopedics, gastroentrology, hematology/oncology, opthalmology, otolaryngology and dedtistry.


Women's & Children's Hospital has repeatedly been voted by The Times of Acadiana Readers Poll as the Best Place To Have A Baby. In 2006, Women's & Children's Hospital was voted as the Best Specialty Hospital by The Times of Acadiana Readers Poll. In addition, the hospital has been presented numerous awards for its community support and involvement in helping to raise dollars for United Way of Acadiana, Susan G. Komen Foundation, and the March of Dimes.
