Riverside Health System is a non-profit healthcare organization based in Newport News, Virginia. Founded in 1915 Riverside Health System was originally established as a small hospital. The health system and each major facility in the organization are governed by a Voluntary Board of Trustees of community leaders. Riverside employs over 9,000 people in over 100 locations in the Greater Peninsula-Williamsburg region, the Middle Peninsula - Northern Neck community, the Eastern Shore of Virginia, and includes facilities2 in Richmond, Petersburg and a joint venture in Charlottesville.
Riverside operates four acute care hospitals, a psychiatric hospital, a physical rehab hospital, and three retirement communities. Riverside is evolving into a physician led organization having grown the Riverside Medical Group to well over 300 physicians and providers connected to electronic medical records. Riverside's network provides nine long term care facilities2 throughout eastern Virginia. Riverside operates several PACE centers (Program for all inclusive care for the elderly) in the area showing a dedicated interest in the elderly population in the communities they serve. Other Riverside facilities2 include two wellness centers, an array of outpatient facilities, Home Care and Hospice and a foundation designed to support worthy community initiatives.
