MUSC Health, the clinical enterprise, operates a 750-bed medical center in Charleston, South Carolina, which includes a nationally recognized Children’s Hospital, the Ashley River Tower (cardiovascular, digestive disease, and surgical oncology), Hollings Cancer Center (one of only 66 elite National Cancer Institute designated centers), a Level I Trauma Center and the Institute of Psychiatry. The Interpreter reports to the Manager, Interpreter Services. Under indirect supervision, the Interpreter facilitates a communication bridge for the Spanish speaking patient population and the health care providerand support staff. This position provides language interpreting services for any patient care issue (serving all patients) at the Medical University Hospital Authority. The Interpreter provides oral interpreting written translation from the Spanish language to English and vice versa. The Interpreter effectively identifies cultural differences and assists employees in understanding cultural differences and how language barriers may impact patient care.
