Tallahatchie General Hospital Wins Rural Health Care Award
On December 3, 2002, Tallahatchie General Hospital earned a 2002 Rural Health Care Award for its work in converting to a Critical Access Hospital (CAH). The awards were given during the Mississippi Hospital Association's (MHA's) 2002 Rural Hospital Conference by MHA's Center for Rural Health. The hospital staff's hard work and dedication ensured that Charleston-area residents continue to have access to quality health care, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
CAH designation enables the hospital to receive enhanced Medicare reimbursement on a cost-based system for inpatient, outpatient and swing-bed services. This greatly improves the financial condition of the hospital and allows it to improve its services and maintain its presence in the community.
Tallahatchie General Hospital is one of only nine hospitals in the state that have been officially designated as CAH hospitals. Bobby Joe Brunson, Jr., serves as the administrator. Greenwood Leflore Hospital serves as their Network Hospital in the CAH program.
