It’s no secret. Our employees are the lifeblood of Silver Cross. Our hospital is your hospital. Our patients are your patients. We pride ourselves in treating our staff the same way we treat our patients – like family. And just like any strong family, we trust, respect and appreciate one another. We share similar values and embrace new ideas, always challenging the norm to become an even better healthcare provider. It is how we have become a high performing, independent organization nationally recognized for our safe, quality and friendly care – year after year.
Silver Cross is committed to your success.
As one of the best employers* in Will County, we truly care about you. At Silver Cross, we make it a priority to invest in our staff. Our growing hospital campus and partnerships with nationally renowned specialists provide exciting opportunities to expand your skills, advance in your career and make an impact. We offer incredible benefits such as a matching retirement plan, affordable insurance and tuition reimbursement. And we strive for a healthy work-life balance.
Proud History
Generation after generation, families have depended upon Silver Cross Hospital to care for their loved ones. Our commitment goes back to Thanksgiving Day in 1895 when the Will County Union of King’s Daughters and Sons opened the doors to a 33-bed hospital in Joliet named after their emblem - the Maltese cross. Their promise was to provide quality healthcare with compassion for the citizens of Will County and surrounding communities. More than a century later, Silver Cross Hospital remains true to that original promise.
Partnerships with Renowned Specialists
As the needs of the community grew, so did Silver Cross—in both size and stature. Services rapidly expanded, evolved and increased in complexity. The medical staff advanced superior healthcare and attracted new expertise including specialists with:
- Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago
- Shirley Ryan Ability Lab (formerly the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago – RIC)
- UChicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center,
- Loyola University for neurosciences and stroke care,
- US HealthVest for behavioral healthcare. We have joined together to open a 100-bed mental health hospital on our New Lenox campus in 2019.
Silver Cross is also home to the largest robotic surgery program in the Chicago area. Surgeons from around the world train with our team.
Award-Winning Care
National prominence was achieved when Silver Cross was first recognized as one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals in 2004—an accomplishment that has been repeated for seven years. And year after year, Silver Cross has been acknowledged as one of American’s Friendliest Hospitals because we treat patients the way they should be treated. We have also been recognized with Straight A’s for our dedication to patient safety from the Leapfrog Group and as the Best Hospital, Best Emergency Room, Best Place to Have a Baby and Best Employers by our community. In 2017, Silver Cross received 5 Stars from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS). This is the highest honor bestowed to only 9% of hospitals throughout the entire country. And Silver Cross is the only hospital serving Will, Grundy and Kankakee counties to receive this top award.
State-of-the Art Facilities
The mission of providing quality healthcare continues today with a remarkable 302-bed replacement hospital, which opened in 2012. All patient rooms are private—accommodating today’s medical technology and ultimately reducing unnecessary transfers and the risk of infection and injury. The hospital’s unique design creates efficiencies between departments and promotes an environment that helps patients heal faster. Our 129-acre New Lenox campus includes two medical buildings with several physician offices and outpatient services, the Carolyn J. Czerkies Pavilion—home to The University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center at Silver Cross, and a new ambulatory surgery center opening in 2017.
Over the years, Silver Cross has developed an extensive ambulatory network throughout the region that includes five satellite facilities with physician offices and outpatient testing and physical therapy. Silver Cross also operates a 24/7 freestanding Emergency Care Center in Homer Glen and an Urgent Care center in Joliet.
