AcuteCare Health System

Considered New Jersey’s leader in developing long term acute care hospitals, ACHS currently operates one fully licensed 50-bed LTACH: Specialty Hospital of Central Jersey, 600 River Avenue, 4 and 5 West, Lakewood, N.J. (formerly Kimball Medical Center). Specialty Hospital of Central Jersey is licensed by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, certified by Medicare and accredited by The Joint Commission.

Specialty Hospital of Central Jersey is a small, integrated “hospital-within-a-hospital” with the sole focus of caring for medically complex patients. Under the direction of its chief medical officer, Howard Lebowitz,M.D., a team of highly skilled clinicians works together with specialists to design and implement a therapeutic plan for each patient.

Situated on the campus of a larger medical center, Specialty Hospital of Central Jersey is able to draw from the vast resources of a full-service hospital, while staying singularly focused on the care of our particular patients. Specialty Hospital of Central Jersey is an independent entity, offering the benefits of a more individualized hospital setting, combined with such life-support services as ventilator weaning, complex wound care, parenteral nutrition, respiratory and cardiac monitoring, and dialysis.

Patients typically are referred to Specialty Hospital of Central Jersey — through physician, nurse, case manager or social worker referral — from an intensive care unit
